People would have written think pieces. Twitter — sorry, X — would have been insufferable for days. Instead? A few posts, a handful of benchmark comparisons, and by Monday everyone had moved on. The most significant simultaneous model release in the history of artificial intelligence, and the collective response was basically: cool, what's next?
I want to sit with that for a minute, because I think it tells us something important about where we are. We have become numb to miracles. Not because the miracles stopped — they're actually accelerating. But because they're happening so frequently that our capacity for awe has been completely burned out. Here's what concerns me as a builder. When model releases become routine, we stop thinking critically about what each one actually means. We stop asking the hard questions. I said last month that Claude sits on the Iron Throne. I believe that. Opus 4.6 is the best model I've ever used, and I use it every single day. Slow down enough to ask: what just changed? What can this do that yesterday's model couldn't? And what does that mean — not for your benchmark scores, but for the world you're building? Because the Friday where three models dropped and nobody blinked? That wasn't boring. That was the most important Friday of the year. And we missed it.
